Area 13 - Electric Bikes that are out of this world.

Battery Best Practices | EP 62

Posted by on

Hey Everybody! Welcome back to another episode of the Bolton Ebikes Podcast. I get a lot of questions as you can imagine about batteries. How much should you charge them? Should you discharge them all away? Do they need to be kept at a certain temperature? How long will they last? You know, as far as years, how many miles will they go?

So in this episode, I want to break down some of the basics of lithium battery maintenance. So you can get the most life you possibly can out of your battery on your electric bike.

In today’s episode you’ll learn more about:

  • Is it okay to run your battery down to zero?
  • How to extend battery life.
  • Is it okay to store your battery in the garage when you’re not using it?
  • What is the difference between the lithium batteries and lead acid batteries.
  • What is the BMS and what does it have to do with battery best practices.
  • How many cycles do ebike batteries typically last?
  • And so much more!

When it comes to batteries, it's only going to get better from here. Thanks again, for listening to another episode of the Bolton eBikes podcast. If you want to sign up for our newsletter for podcast notifications, make sure to go to

  • Thanks so much Kyle this is very helpful!

  • Re: Stunner X and similar bikes with powerful mid drive motors, do you think is is hard on the bike to start off from a stop with throttle only if you are in peddle assist 1 and derailleur gear number one ?
When balancing your battery at 80 or 90 percent and then occasionally 100 percent, should the 100 percent charges be done for 12 hours and after how many 80 or 90 percent cycles should this be done?

  • The technical data in this Podcast could have been delivered in 5 minutes. The other 20 minutes was all fluff. Most people don’t have the time to listen for 25 minutes when 5 minutes will do. Don’t get me wrong I love everything about Bolton bikes and Kyle Chittock. Just “get to the point of the podcast” quickly.

  • I was hoping that you would say something about the Cycle Satiator.
